Abstract

A new species, Carex ophiolithica, is described from the Surville Cliffs, North Cape Scientific Reserve, Northland. This bright green sedge, with swollen culm bases, erect culms and spikes is known only from the ultramafic rocks of the Tangihua Complex Ophiolite sequence where it is locally abundant.
