Abstract

Carex david-smithii is described as new from Bolivia. It is most closely related to the Ar- gentinean and Chilean C. catamarcensis, but differs in its dark, almost black, pistillate scales and strongly outcurved perigynia tapered to the beak. Carex catamarcensis has stramineous to reddish purple scales and straight perigynia abruptly contracted into the beak.
