Abstract
The field of school psychology is diverse in terms of roles, positions, and training experiences. This chapter provides an overview of the field of school psychology, the demographic characteristics of the workforce, job shortage and satisfaction information, and the training, competencies, and credentialing associated with doctoral and non-doctoral graduate education. An overview of careers in school psychology is reviewed, with particular attention to potential careers of doctoral-level school psychologists, which is the focus of this book. Guidance for seeking and securing admission into a doctoral program in school psychology is provided. Careers in school psychology can be personally and professionally fulfilling and can benefit children, families, and communities in extensive ways. Suggested resources to assist with exploring a career in the field of school psychology are provided.
