Abstract

In the modern era of globalization, women have become career conscious. They want to enter into the professions which were hitherto the forte of men only. Work participation rate of women in India has already increased. The presence of women in the Information Technology Industry is remarkable. This study tries to examine the issues of entry, career growth and barriers for the women working in Information Technology Industry. An attempt has been made to in this study to explore the various aspects like choice of career, job designation, promotions, career development strategy, appraisal, attrition, initiative to attract women. The study discovers that women have great interest in career in information technology and career ambitious women have preferred choice of Information Technology. Once a woman enters into a profession/job, she has opportunity to perform and prove her worth. There is a pressure on the employees to perform to scale the higher ladders of growth in quick succession.
