Abstract

It is necessary to consider the career options available to the increasing number of women enrolling as students and receiving degrees in geoscience. Educational institutions have been the largest employers of women geoscientists. As these jobs become scarcer women need to be directed into academic programs and fields which will prepare them for jobs in industry and government. Women also must thoughtfully examine their career motives and goals so they will be prepared to face the challenges of combining careers with family obligations and the resistance that still faces a woman seeking a professional career.
