Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Canadian women. Women have unique risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) including pregnancy complications such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes, idiopathic preterm birth, and intrauterine growth restriction which impact close to 20% of women. Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy (HDP) were identified as risk factor for CVD in the 2016 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Guidelines for the Management of Dyslipidemia for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in the Adult. Sunnybrook Health Science Centre implemented an inter-professional post-partum maternal health clinic (4P Maternal Health Clinic) in 2014 for women whose pregnancy was complicated by a HDP.
