Abstract

A cover change from pale green to bright red is probably the most readily identifiable difference between this and the previous edition of Rushmer. Within the covers, this new edition offers a modest expansion of the section on methods (homage to the booming success of reflected ultrasound), a few bits of updating, some changes in the sequence of chapters, a fair amount of rearranging within the individual chapters, and some pruning of bibliography. There are perhaps about 20 new pages that will reassure Rushmer's fans that the master has remained au courant with the events on the contemporary scientific scene. However, if the preparation of this revision ever generated any enthusiasm, it must have spent itself largely on the rearrangements and not on the development of new concepts or ideas.
