Abstract

Cardiothoracic Surgery, Second Edition, by Fritz J. Baumgartner, MD, is a handbook in the Vademecum series published by Landis BioScience (vade mecum, is Latin for “go with me,”—a book for ready reference). Like the Washington Manual and other progenitors, the small volume is wire bound and small enough to fit into the pocket of a lab coat. The author and three contributors from his institution wrote the book as a reference source for residents and students working on cardiothoracic surgical services; it includes practical guidelines for care of cardiothoracic surgical patients, fundamental aspects of pathophysiology of thoracic diseases, basic anatomical considerations in operations, and overviews of common surgical procedures.
