Abstract

It is well established that 1/4 of individuals with Hepatitis C (HCV) spontaneously clear the virus and since HCV does not have a latent form, these individuals are considered non-infectious. In August 2015, UNOS mandated reporting of HCV viral load via nucleic acid testing (NAT) on all donors. For HCV positive donors, NAT can distinguish between those antibody positive (Ab+) donors that remain viremic (HCV Ab+/NAT+) and those who have cleared HCV and are no longer viremic (HCV Ab+/NAT-). We present our initial experience in recipients of hearts from HCV Ab+/NAT- donors.
