Abstract

Overweight adolescents may demonstrate subclinical cardiac dysfunction. The underlying mechanisms of cardiac dysfunction have not been determined. Early impairments in cardiac and skeletal muscle energy metabolism may precede and contribute to cardiac dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between cardiac energy metabolism and left ventricular (LV) systolic function in healthy and overweight adolescents.
