Those who now take up catheterization will be grateful to William Grossman for carefully organizing the efforts of 24 distinguished contributors in an allmeat, no-fat presentation. Twenty-seven chapters cover the techniques of catheterization, His bundle electrography, pacing and angiography, hemodynamic principles, and evaluation of function under basal conditions and induced challenges. A profiles section gives characteristic findings and appropriate case reports in valve disease, coronary disease, pulmonary embolism, cardiomyopathies, pericardial disorders, and congenital heart disease. A valuable insert by a master of noninvasive techniques, Ernest Craige, demonstrates the utility of echocardiography, pulse recordings, and systolic time intervals—atraumatic methods that complement catheterization.
