Abstract

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in the UK. Cardiac catheterisation is used to provide access to the coronary arteries, allowing cardiologists to take images and treat heart disease. This article aims to provide a brief overview of the arterial system and reasons for cardiac catheterisation. How healthcare assistants and assistant practitioners can support senior staff in preparation and post-procedural care is also explored throughout the article.
