Abstract

Cardiac Alert is a transtelephonic ECG monitoring service for general practitioners and high risk cardiac patients. Figures provided by the British I leart Foundation currently estimate that 300,000 people suffer a heart attack in the UK each year; 25 per cent of these people the within one hour. Of the 75 per cent who reach hospital alive, two-thirds go on to live for a year or more. Thus 43 per cent of all heart attack victims are dead within a year. World Health Organization figures show the mortality rate from coronary heart disease in Great Britain as one of the highest in the world.
