Abstract
The mangrove horseshoe crab, Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda, is one of the four extant species of horseshoe crabs. Mangrove horseshoe crabs have an important ecological role in the marine food chain, besides providing nutrient-rich eggs to migratory birds. However, their populations have been declining rapidly due to loss of habitat and irresponsible fishing. Hence, there is a need to understand their population-genetic structure and genetic diversity, which are essential for designing effective conservation strategies.
