Abstract

The carbonylation of olefins, with branching at the double bond, and of tertiary alcohols with CO at −30° and atmospheric pressure, in the presence of the catalyst system: BF3· H2O-liquid SO2, leads to the formation of mixtures of α,α-dialkylalkanoic acids in 79–100°. yield.
