Abstract
AbstractThe aim of this work concerned the study of the differences in the carbonic anhydrase activity and localization between plant species, the photosynthesis of which is carried out according to the C3 and C4 pathways respectively. The measurement of enzymatic activity was made with a titrimetric evaluation of the rate of the reaction CO2+ H2O ⇆ H++ HCO−3. The C3 plant species showed higher activities than the C4 species. The localization of carbonic anhydrase was carried out with a histochemical method. The carbonic anhydrase appeared in the chloroplasts both in the mesophyll and the bundle sheath without any difference between C3 and C4 plants.
