Abstract
A comparative analysis of the conditions of formation and distribution of carbonates in the profiles of ordinary chernozems and meadow-chernozemic soils within the Kamennaya Steppe (Voronezh oblast) is given. On this basis, the approximate duration of the meadow stage of soil development is estimated. It is shown that the upper boundary of soil carbonates changes under the impact of forest shelterbelts.
