Abstract

In the present study, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesized carbon spheres (CS) were used to produce Nano Graphitic Flakes (NGFs) in different organic solvents with excellent photoluminescence properties. It was observed that simple manual shaking of CS in organic solvents results in liquid-phase exfoliation of CS in different organic solvents and the centrifuged supernatant exhibited excellent photoluminescence. This facile approach can give a large yield of NGFs in organic solvents such as Acetone, Methanol, Ethanol, DMF, DMSO, Toluene, isopropyl alcohol, Ethylene glycol (EG), Styrene, and Xylene. The mechanism of carbon dot formation and optical properties are discussed here.
