Abstract

Province of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) is well known for its savanna existency, where 22% of the land are savanna. There are eight savanna types based on dominant tree species which exist on the savanna. This study was conducted to provide emition/sequestration factor data and to know the ability of emiting or sequestrating Green House Gasses by measuring carbon sink in savanna areas. This paper presents carbon sink potency of three savanna types, i.e.huek ( Eucalyptus alba ) savanna, lontar ( Borassus flabellifer ) savana, and gewang ( Corypha utan ) savanna. The estimation was conducted to fourcarbon pool, i.e. above ground, wood necromass, non wood necromass and soil. The study shows that the mean of carbon sink potency in huek savanna is 537.18 ton/ha, the mean of carbon sink potency in gewang savanna is 58.21 ton/ha, and in lontar savanna is 52.68 ton/ha.
