Abstract

This article addresses carbon nanotubes (CNTs) coating on n-diamond film induced by n-diamond itself in chemical vapor deposition process using ethanol as carbon source. Carbon balls, bamboo-like CNTs and multi-walled CNTs coating on n-diamond film were obtained through CVD process at 850, 900, and 950 ℃, respectively. The products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. The experimental results indicate that the morphologies of the products induced by n-diamond film are temperature-dependent. Based on the obtained results, a reasonable growth mechanism is proposed.
