Abstract

Recent studies on carbon-based nanostructures have given rise to promising prospects for new applications in electrical and biological systems. In this work, our recent efforts investigating the utility of carbon nanotube (CNT) and carbon nanofiber (CNF) devices in electrical and biological interconnect systems are reviewed. Reliability measurements are performed to demonstrate the robust nature of CNFs. Concurrently, a microelectrode array (MEA) consisting of a two-dimensional (2D) pattern of CNT recording sites is used to detect in vitro the electrical signals in embryonic rat hippocampal neurons.
