R. ; Tilford, S. G. ; Widing, K. G. Abstract Solar wavelength measurements are given for approximately fourteen bands of the CO fourth positive group identified in a solar-rocket ultraviolet spectrum. The bands identified involve lower vibrational levels v" < 6. Rotational structure in the solar (1,5) band is resolved. The CO bands in the Sun are conspicuous only in the wavelength range 17O( 1800 A. The weakness of the strong CO bands shortward of 1700 A and their disappearance below 1525 A are related to major changes in the solar spectrum at these wavelengths produced by silicon bound4ree opacity.
