Abstract

10 commercially available CC-qualities with 2- to 4-directional reinforcements have been characterised with respect to their thermal shock and thermal erosion behaviour by systematic screening tests in the electron beam device of KFA. The results of the characterisation and the erosion tests are reported by means of 5 typical qualities, the amount of eroded material and the geometry of erosion craters as a function of beam power and pulse length or deposited energy are discussed. The results confirm the excellent thermal shock behaviour, combined with a very good thermal erosion behaviour, of the 3- and 4-directional CC-qualities. A new characterisation procedure, namely the so called plasma oxydation, is introduced.
