Abstract

Vigorously promoting carbon emission reduction (CER) is an important measure to achieve the strategic goals of peak carbon (peak carbon dioxide emission) and carbon neutrality in China. Ambidextrous green innovation strategies have become a key means to promote CER. Although previous studies focused on the driving effects of ambidextrous green innovation strategies on CER, the research into configuration effects of ambidextrous green innovation strategies has been largely ignored. This study adopts radical and incremental green innovations to characterize the heterogeneity of ambidextrous green innovation strategies. In addition, the effects of configurations among ambidextrous green innovation strategies, external environment, and slack resource structures, on CER are estimated, which form six different configurational paths. The results show that CER is heavily dependent on the matching of three factors. These findings can enrich the literature on ambidextrous green innovation strategies and reveal the potential ways of triggering enterprises’ CER.
