Abstract

Climate change, resource scarcity, and environmental pollution warn the world to accelerate its pace toward carbon neutrality. As an important source of carbon emissions, energy has received widespread attention. In order to further understand the impact of energy system on carbon emissions, it is necessary to study carbon emissions and its reduction from the perspective of energy system's key components. First, we marked the position where film capacitor makes an impact on energy system. Second, we calculated the demand for film capacitors to further understand its importance. Third, we described the carbon emissions caused by the film capacitor's production by calculating the carbon emissions generated during the production of film capacitor's constituent materials. Fourth, a case study of using film capacitors to replace aluminium electrolytic capacitors to allow more renewable energy entering energy system was conducted. The result shows that if a film capacitor replaces an aluminium electrolytic capacitor with the same capacitance (1uF) for wind power transmission and the missing part of the energy is supplemented by coal-fired power generation, CO2 emissions will be reduced by 1,628.77 kg per year. Finally, from the perspective of film capacitor's life cycle, suggestions for promoting carbon neutralization by film capacitors were given.
