Abstract

1. No redistribution of carbon occurs in the process of welding cutting tools of steel R6M5 to steel 45. 2. A completely decarburized zone is formed in steel 45 and a carburized zone in steel R6M5 when the blanks are heated at 550–800°. 3. The torsional strength of the welded blanks (after annealing) is 15–25% lower than that of steel 45. The torsional strength increases when the zone of complete decarburization is eliminated.
