Abstract

Nowadays, using greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide is significantly increased because of technological maturity. Therefore, it is vital to consider new techniques for reducing CO2 emission. Different methods developed regarding CO2 removal, such as chemical and physical absorption, cyclic adsorption processes (various swing adsorption technologies), using membranes, cryogenic separation, and biological technologies. The adsorption process basically depends on two parameters, the type of the adsorbent and the engineering design of the process. In swing adsorption technology, the term swing is related to the various parameters in the regeneration step. Regeneration technologies through reducing the pressure and using heat are known as Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and temperature swing adsorption (TSA), respectively. Using a blower to vacuum the bed is another way to regenerate the adsorbent (vacuum swing adsorption or VSA). Moreover, using electricity instead of conventional heat (electric swing adsorption or ESA) is a novel technology introduced by recent researchers. These single technologies can be combined to enhance the adsorption and regeneration efficiency.
