Abstract

Advanced functional sorbents have shown great promise as capture materials for effectively capturing CO2 from diluted sources. The distinctive functionalities of these functional sorbents, characterized by their strong affinity towards CO2 molecules, impart them with exceptional CO2 adsorption capacity, CO2/N2 selectivity, and remarkable cyclic stability. Two major strategies including direct synthesis and post-synthetic approach, have been developed to functionalize porous materials with specific functional groups for CO2 adsorption. This chapter summarizes the progress made in preparing functional sorbents using porous organic polymers and metal organic frameworks through those two strategies, as well as their CO2 adsorption performance.
