Abstract
SUMMARYBoth mannitol and arabitol are synthesized by Dendryphiella salina when acetate is supplied as the sole carbon source. As in media containing glucose, there is a rapid turnover of the hexitol. Addition of glucose to the medium inhibits acetate uptake and leads to marked increases in yields of residual dry weight of fungus and respiratory carbon dioxide.
