Abstract

ABSTRACT The Mousterian technocomplex of the group of lower and middle Palaeolithic sites at Champ-Paillard (Deux-Sèvres, France) shows a non random organisation of the lithic remains. A comparison of the technological composition of an isolated flint cluster with a structured one obtained by experimental knapping indicates distortions of anthropogenic origin. Although all the characteristics of on site débitage are present, the lack on refittings shows that we are dealing with a more complex phenomenon. The various facts presented allow us to propose a characterisation of this cluster.
