Abstract

The melon is a vegetable much appreciated in the feeding of Brazilians, and this culture has two main botanical groups, Inodorus and Reticulatus, which have different characteristics that complement each other. The objective of this work was to carry out the qualitative morphological characterization of the progenies of half brothers of meloeiro. Were evaluated 100 progenies of half-brothers of melon, by crossing the varieties Amarelo Ouro x Hale's Best, belonging to the groups Valenciano (Inodorus) and American (Reticulatus), respectively. The data of the scales of notes were distributed in classes of relative frequency for each trait considered and the selection of the fruits with the desirable characteristics (fruit grid, grid distribution, ribs of the fruit, the fruit peduncle separation, pulp color, shape of the fruit, and the mature fruit color). The progenies of half brothers studied showed high variability of the characters, with 8.58% of fruits with the desirable characteristics.
