Abstract

The silcretes, which are a product of intense silica cimentation under or near the surface, have restricted study in Brazil. Recently, researches in the West region of the Minas Gerais State (Triângulo Mineiro) observed the presence of silcretes associated with siliciclastic rocks of the Serra da Galga Member, Marilia Formation, Bauru Group (Upper Cretaceous of Parana Basin). It is common to observe silcretes associated with calcretes in this unit. This association proposes a probable silica source to silcretes formation by unstable siliciclastic grains dissolution during the calcretes formation.
