Abstract

Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) remains the only treatment for end stage liver disease and acute liver failure. Following significant advances in surgical technique and critical care since the first successful liver transplant by Dr. Starzl in 1967, liver transplantation has become a safer and more standardized procedure [1]. The goal of this article is to review technical considerations of liver transplantation that will aid in the perioperative care of liver transplant patients.
