Abstract
In a further development of the red cell IgM-antibody capture assay for the diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in man, a general capture reverse passive haemagglutination assay has been devised also exploiting the “inagglutinable” bovine red cells. Mouse monoclonal antibodies to microbial antigens were absorbed on to antiglobulin-linked bovine red cells which remained unagglutinated until presented with the corresponding microbial antigens. Microbial antigens investigated were the meningococcal polysaccharides A and B and those associated with Chylamydia psittaci, herpes simplex virus, and rotavirus.
