Abstract

Background and Aim: The utility and safety of capsule endoscopy (CE) in patients with low neutrophil count and gastrointestinal bleeding is unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the yield and safety of CE in this patient population. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 225 patients who underwent CE at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from July 2005 thru September 2008. Patients with gastrointestinal bleeding who had an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) <1500 cells/μL during the time of capsule endoscopy were identified.
