Abstract

A secondary amine based ionic liquid, lithiated sarcosine-trifluoromethyl sulfonyl imide (TFSI) solution has been developed for hydrothermal synthesis of hexagonal ZnO micro rods. The ionic liquid formation was confirmed by 13C-NMR, 7Li-NMR and FTIR analysis and a possible mechanism was proposed for the formation of wurtzite hexagonal ZnO micro rods using morphological observations. The lithiated sarcosine TFSI solution has shown both capping and catalytic activities in bringing out the hexagonal ZnO micro rods.
