Abstract

Increasing dominance of capitation as a reimbursement mechanism to providers from health plans and integrated health systems presents opportunities. Managed care contracting for services has become more competitive, and the complexity of risk-based contracts is explored in the article. Through understanding the elements of risk and flow of funds, providers can define terms to protect against undue risk. Additionally opportunities for partnership with medical groups and institutions can be achieved.
