Abstract
This article deals with the current state of the theory and methods of capital budgeting under conditions of capital rationing. The focus is on the need for adequate decision support for management and planners dealing with capital budgeting problems. Mention is made of some modern textbooks on capital budgeting and these are found to give scant treatment to capital rationing. A general optimisation model is used in presenting and discussing some major theoretical contributions and proposed methods of calculation in this field.
