Abstract

The article presents an analytical framework for studies of technological change under capitalist relations of production. Special attention is paid to theoretical and methodological questions concerning the relationship between capital accumulation and technological development on the one hand, and the resulting changes in the labour process, the locational patterns and the spatial division of labour on the other hand. This implies conceptual work, and attempts are made to obtain more precise definitions of important analytical concepts such as ‘technology’ and ‘spatial division of labour’.
