Abstract

The separation of oxovanadium(IV) complexes of four tetradentate ligands, bis(trifluoroacetylacetone)ethylenediimine (H 2F 3AA 2en), bis(trifluoroacetylacetone)propylenediimine (H 2F 3AA 2S), bis(trifluoroacetylacetone)- dl-stilbenediimine ( dl-H 2F 3AA 2S) and bis(trifluoroacetylacetone)- meso-stilbenediimine ( meso-H 2F 3AA 2S) from their copper(II), nickel(II) and palladium(II) complexes was obtained on a BP-1 column (12 m×0.22 mm I.D.) with a film thickness of 0.25 μm. Each of the complexes gave a single peak, except oxovanadium complexes of H 2F 3AA 2Pn and meso-H 2F 3AA 2S, which gave two peaks, due to the separation of their diastereoisomers. Solvent extraction procedures have been developed for the determination of vanadium. The reagent dl-H 2F 3AA 2S was used to determine vanadium in crude petroleum oils from lower Indus basin oil fields.
