Abstract

Outokumpu Mintec has introduced a different approach to dewatering and filtration to many of the centuries-old technologies — ‘capillary filtration’. Capillary filtration uses the molecular-scale effects of surface and liquid adhesion to extract water from solid slurries, just as tree roots pull water from the ground. This new technique yields a drier filter cake, with only 10% of the energy cost of conventional vacuum- or pressure-driven filtration equipment.
