Abstract

Many researches on wireless multihop networks are progressing. The most attractive benefits of multihop networks are not only the enhancement of user capacity and service coverage but also the reduction of deployment cost. In this paper, we focus on the capacity enhancement by relay in multihop networks. By introducing relay systems, we can enhance signal to noise ratio and therefore we can acquire higher data rate between a transmitting node and a receiving node with a given radio resources. However, without spatial reuse of radio resource, this benefit is reduced or meaningless in some cases. Some researches on spatial resource reuse were progressed to increase total end-to-end capacity. However, there are no fundamental resource reuse policies among multiple hops to analyze the capacity enhancement in multihop networks. In this paper, we propose a basic resource reuse scheme by applying a general resource reuse scheme that is used for cellular networks to multihop cellular networks. Then, we examine the capacity gains of the proposed resource reuse scheme through mathemat- ical analysis based on Shannon capacity. The results indicate a significant improvement in capacity through adequate spatial reuse according to the relay interval when compared to the case without spatial reuse.
