Abstract
Hybrid Free Space Optical/Radio Frequency (FSO/RF) is an appreciated technique for improving the overall system reliability of a FSO communication system. In hard switching scheme, one bit feedback controls the switching of the RF link. The overall performance of the hybrid FSO/RF system depends on the accuracy of this feedback bit. Improper switching between FSO and RF link due to incorrect feedback bit may degrade the system performance. In this paper, ergodic capacity and average data rate of hybrid system are investigated under the effect of fading on the feedback bit for hard switched hybrid FSO/RF system. Closed-form mathematical expressions are derived for the same. The capacity with faded feedback channel is seen to converge to the ideal feedback channel capacity as the SNR of feedback link tends to large value. Similar results are also observed for average data rate.
