Abstract

This paper investigates the feasibility of coexistence of co-channel time division synchronous code-division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) and wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) systems operating in a macro cell environment. A Monte-Carlo simulation is performed for a TD-SCDMA network, a WCDMA network, and the coexistence network comprising both systems for both the uplink and downlink. The impact of eight interference modes is considered. The pole capacity in each case is calculated and compared with each other. From the comparison and analysis, it is found that the combined system can achieve comparable performance to that of the individual systems, and the WCDMA cells and TD-SCDMA cells can effectively share the same spectrum resources.
