Abstract
Electrostatics of electron wires screened by a metallic gate in a high magnetic field is investigated theoretically. The formation of strips with compressible (incompressible) liquids in a wire is considered in application to capacitance spectroscopy. The capacitance of such a system is determined by the geometrical parameters of compressible liquid strips. We find that the formation of the incompressible liquid strip in the center of a parabolic wire leads to a minimum in the voltage dependence of the capacitance.
