Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the working capacity of a public university employees. This is a descriptive and quantitative epidemiological study. The sample was comprised of 307 employees; most were male; of age between 41 and 60 years, showing that the workforce has aged. Regarding the evaluation of the Working Capacity Index (WKI), a fair WCI was found for 58.9% of the interviewees; moderate WCI for 37.8%, and low WCI for 3.2%. The interviewees who reported any occupational lesion or disease corresponded to 84.3% of the sample; however, 12.3% reported that often, or sometimes, they found it necessary to reduce their rhythm at work due to a lesion or disease. Hence, workers’ health services must keep all workers at sight, especially considering their WCI. Descriptors: Work Capacity Evaluation; Aging; Occupational Health; Occupational Health Nursing.
