Abstract

ABSTRACT Capability indices such as Cp and Cpk are used to evaluate the ability of a process to produce according to specified requirements. When a variable of interest Y is not an observable one, but it is a function of a set of independent input variables, inferential procedures cannot be carried out. In this article, methods to obtain approximated confidence intervals for the variance () of the output Y are used to make inference on capability index Cp and Cpk of the variable of interest Y. Numerical examples illustrate the proposed methods, and simulation studies were conducted to evaluate the coverage proportions of the proposed methods.
