Abstract

ABSTRACTThis article is an attempt to describe concisely the supervision experience of CAPA (Chinese American Psychoanalytic Alliance). From the perspective of my personal experience of supervision, I will also add a systems perspective on the development of this remarkable organization. Considering that this is pro bono work, its growth is rather remarkable. The evolution of a system to organize, recruit, assign supervisors and evaluate students is worthy of closer examination. I have found my experience with the individuals I supervised gratifying to the extent that I remain very involved with CAPA. The individual experiences of other supervisors, not only from America, but several other western countries have been sufficiently gratifying to keep up with the increasing demand. It is useful to speculate on the nature of this experience that has kept so many professionals involved in a volunteer organization.
