Abstract

What is the scope and what are the values of a scholarly society devoted to the study of nineteenth-century French studies? How does a new scholarly society emerge and gain momentum? How does such a scholarly society nurture emerging researchers and build capacity in nineteenth-century French studies and French realism studies in particular? What impact does canonicity have upon the activities of the scholarly society and how does that society influence canonicity in turn? These are some of the questions posed in this case study of the Society of Dix-Neuviémistes (founded 2001).
