Abstract

Inconnection with the use ofcannabinoids for therapeutic purposes inhuman medicine, there isincreased attention for their use inveterinary medicine, particularly bythe owners ofcompanion animals and horses. Therefore, veterinarians are expected toface this interest and have the corresponding knowledge onthese substances. Presently, itis not possible touse medical marijuana (in terms ofthe dried cannabis flowers) for veterinary purposes inmany countries, but there isincreasing evidence that isolated cannabinoids also have beneficial effects (namely cannabidiol - CBD). Thus, this review summarises the possible therapeutic implications ofCBD within the scope ofevidence-based medicine, particularly indogs and horses inassociation with the treatment ofpain, epilepsy and anxiety inorder toprovide veterinarians with aconcise overview ofscientific findings inthis field.
